Wi-Fi keeps disconnecting: checks in the right order

First separate a Wi-Fi: A wireless way for nearby devices to connect to a router or network. Full definition problem from an internet outage. Wi-Fi can remain connected even when the internet service is down.

Difficulty: Easy Time: 15–30 minutes You will need: At least two Wi-Fi devices if possible.

Test another device

When the problem happens, check a second phone or computer. If only one device fails, focus on that device.

Move close to the router

Test in the same room as the Router: The device that shares the internet connection with computers, phones and other devices, usually through Wi-Fi. Full definition. If the connection becomes stable, coverage or interference is likely.

Restart the equipment once

Follow the safe modem-and-router restart guide. Do not factory-reset the equipment.

Forget and reconnect on one device

On the affected device, forget the Wi-Fi network, reconnect and carefully enter the password.

Check for an outage

Use mobile data to check your provider and NBN network status. If every device loses internet together, the service may be the cause.

Note the pattern

Write down the time, room, device and light status. A clear pattern helps decide whether you need better placement, a mesh system or provider support.
