Identify the equipment
You may have one combined Modem: A device that connects your home or office equipment to the internet service. Full definition and Router: The device that shares the internet connection with computers, phones and other devices, usually through Wi-Fi. Full definition, or an NBN connection box: The NBN-supplied device used for some connection types before your router. Full definition plus a separate router. Photograph the cables before touching anything.
Turn off the router
Use the power button if available, or unplug its power cable.
Turn off the NBN or modem device if present
Unplug only the power cable. Do not remove fibre or other delicate cables.
Wait 30 seconds
This allows temporary memory to clear.
Power the NBN or modem device first
Wait until its normal connection lights settle. This can take several minutes.
Power the router next
Wait for the Wi-Fi: A wireless way for nearby devices to connect to a router or network. Full definition light and internet light to return, then test one device.
