Restart the computer
Save your work and choose Restart, not Shut down. A restart clears temporary problems and completes some updates.
Check free storage
Open Settings, then System, then Storage. Try to keep at least 15–20 GB free. Remove files only when you know what they are, and empty the Recycle Bin after checking it.
Install normal updates
Open Windows Update: The Windows feature that downloads security fixes, improvements and some device drivers. Glossary and install ordinary security and quality updates. Keep the charger connected and allow time for the computer to restart.
Close programs you are not using
Look near the clock and close programs you do not need. Too many programs running together can make the computer feel slow.
Check startup programs
Open Task Manager, choose Startup apps, and disable only programs you recognise and do not need at every startup. Do not disable security, sound, touchpad or hardware software unless you understand it.
Run the built-in security scan
Open Windows Security and run a Quick scan using the built-in antivirus: Software that looks for known harmful programs and suspicious activity. Glossary. Avoid random paid “speed booster” or “driver updater” programs.
