Browser versus search engine: what is the difference?

A Browser: The program used to open websites, such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. Full definition is the program that opens websites. A search engine is a website or service used to find other websites.

Address bar

The long box near the top can open an exact website address or perform a search.

Advertisements in search results

The first result may be an advertisement. Check the website address before downloading software or calling support.

Bookmarks or favourites

These save a trusted website address for later.

Private browsing

Private mode reduces history saved on the device, but it does not make activity invisible to websites, employers or internet providers.
