How to set up email on a new device

First confirm whether the address is Gmail, Outlook, Microsoft 365, Yahoo, iCloud or another provider. Use the official app or built-in account setup.

Test the password in a browser

Sign in to the official email website using a Browser: The program used to open websites, such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. Full definition. This confirms the password before changing app settings.

Open the device account settings

Choose Add account or Add email account.

Select the correct provider

Choose Google, Microsoft, Apple or the correct listed provider rather than “Other” when available.

Sign in on the provider page

Check the web address and complete any Two-factor authentication: An extra sign-in check, such as a code or app approval, used in addition to a password. Full definition prompt.

Allow required permissions

Allow mail access. Contacts and calendar are optional depending on what you use.

Send and receive a test

Send a message to yourself and confirm it appears on both devices.
