Start the new computer and connect to power
Join trusted Wi-Fi and complete the normal setup screens.
Install updates
Run Windows Update: The Windows feature that downloads security fixes, improvements and some device drivers. Full definition and restart until the main updates are complete.
Check the main account
Confirm the correct Microsoft account: An account used for Microsoft services such as Windows, Outlook, OneDrive and Microsoft 365. Full definition or local account is being used and recovery details are current.
Install programs from official sources
Install only the programs you actually use. Avoid bundled download sites.
Move files safely
Copy documents and photos, then open a sample from the new computer.
Set up email and printers
Test sending, receiving, printing and scanning.
Set up a backup
Create a separate Backup: A second copy of important files stored somewhere separate from the original device. Full definition before relying on the new computer.
Keep the old computer untouched
Use the new computer normally for at least several days before erasing the old device.
