Find where the photos are stored

Check phones, computers, memory cards and old external drives.

Choose a primary organised library

Group photos into folders by year or event. Avoid changing thousands of file names at once.

Create an external copy

Copy the library to an external drive and open several photos from it.

Create an off-site copy

Use trusted Cloud storage: Files stored through an internet service so they can be accessed from approved devices. Full definition or keep a second drive in another secure location.

Check phone backup settings

Confirm the correct account is uploading photos and that storage is not full.

Test recovery

Download or restore a few photos to confirm the backup is usable.

Repeat regularly

Set a reminder to check new photos and backup status.
