End the connection
Disconnect the computer from the internet. Close the remote-access program if you can do so safely.
Contact the bank immediately
If money, cards or banking details may be involved, call the bank using the number on the card or official website. Ask about stopping transactions.
Use a safe device for account changes
Change the email password first, then banking and other important accounts. Do not reuse passwords.
Remove unknown remote-access programs
Look for software the caller asked you to install. Do not assume removal alone proves the computer is safe.
Run security checks
Use the built-in Antivirus: Software that looks for known harmful programs and suspicious activity. Full definition and arrange a proper device check if sensitive activity occurred.
Check account activity
Review email forwarding, recovery details, bank activity and recent sign-ins.
Report and get support
Report the scam to Scamwatch. IDCARE provides free identity and cyber support and can help create a response plan.
